We retired an old Nikon camera to the draw years ago, never expecting to see it again… that was until Miss I started playing with our cameras and wanting to take pics! It got dug out, charged up and a memory card popped into it and ever since then, it has been filled with half head selfies (ask anyone who has ever let Miss I play with their camera on their phone and they’ll tell you how many they find when she’s done!) and random photographs of things. Don’t judge me- she doesn’t have an I-Pad/tablet or computer and watches VERY LITTLE TV (1 hour max a week) so I’m ok with this. Creativity and all that.
I know what you’re thinking after reading that last sentence and the answer is No. No I do not judge you if your kid has an I-Pad, tablet, computer and/or watches more than an hour of TV a week. Each to their own babeses!
Having had an almost 2 week break from homeschool due to the fucking flu and ear infections, we thought this would be a fun way to get back into the swing of things by exploring in between the rain showers, taking photographs and bringing them up on the computer to see what we could find. Lots of wet grass was one and mummy’s face zoomed in to the max was another. Those DID NOT make for very good pictures. Seriously, cameras should have this auto face detect zoom function thing so when it detects its a face, it zooms right back out again. Someone NEEDS to make the happen.
Another thing we found was that people look at you funny when you’re walking around the block with a kid who’s taking pictures. “She’s a bit young don’t you think?” – No. It’s a learning tool. Only the rain can rain on our photograph taking parade.. and it did so we came home slightly soggy but learning was done, fun was had and thats the main thing right?!
I find it rather fascinating following her around (because I’m not allowed to help) and watching what she takes photos of. Creepy and weird? Probably. But it’s kind of cool to see all of the things she sees through the camera at her level. I’m not entirely sure how much of it is her just taking random pictures or if there is any thought behind it but whatever, I’ll just continue to be that weirdo.
Anyway, without further adieu- here is the first instalment of “Through Miss I’s Lens” with a few of my weird mum following her around pics thrown in.
