Easy Peasy Slime 2 Ways

Slime is one of those things that can be a bit of a pain in the butt to make. Youtube makes it look easy, so do the instructions on blogs but unless the planets are aligned and you’re holding your tongue the right way, you might end up a lumpy, scrambled egg looking mess.

I’m here to help you with two Easy Peasy Slime recipes but before we get to those, we need to talk about the glue! You NEED the cheapest PVA/white glue you can find. Don’t buy the branded stuff, the stuff from Bunnings and steer clear of anything that has wood glue written on it. You’ll also want to stay away from those really big bottles of glue! 500ml bottles and under. Go to your local $2 shop or something similar and buy the cheap stuff! The one that is like $2.50 for a 125ml bottle or $5-6 for a 500ml bottle. The Warehouse do a small 125ml bottle for about $3 and that works great as well.

I get our glue from our local Look Sharp store and while the brand of the white glue changes, they’ve never failed on me unless it’s been in transit from one side of the country to the other.. but lets not talk about that!

Borax can be used to make slime as well as contact lens solution. If you’re going to go with borax, you can buy this from Bunnings Warehouse and from what I hear, Binn Inn as well. If you’re going down the contact lens solution route which is actually way easier, check the back of the box and make sure it contains boric acid. I use the Re-Nu brand which you can get from your local pharmacy. It’s about $20 for a small bottle but it lasts ages and there is no mixing up involved unlike borax. The only thing is, it is slightly wetter to the touch but this can be kneaded in.

Onto the Easy Peasy Slime recipes!

Easy Peasy Slime 1- Borax

For this recipe, you’ll want to dissolve 1 tsp of borax powder into 250mls of warm water. Give this a really good stir until the borax has dissolved. You will not use all of this in one go so you can pop it into an airtight container and this will last you a fair few batches of slime.

What you’ll need
– 1/2 cup white glue
– 1/4 cup warm water
– a decent squirt (about a TBSP) of moisturiser- hand, baby, body- whatever you’ve got
– pre made borax solution (the thing you made above)
– food colouring or glitter or both!

What to do
– Grab a bowl and pour in your white glue. Add in your 1/4 cup of warm water and mix well.
– Squirt in your moisturiser, add in your food colouring or glitter if you’re using one or both of them and mix well again.
– Start by adding 3 tsp of borax solution to your glue mixture. Give this a really good stir. It will start to come together in a ball but will still be quite sticky.
– You’ll now need to get your hands in here and give it a good knead. Continue to add ONE TSP of borax solution at a time until it is no longer sticky. It could take 5 tsp, it could take 10 but just make sure you’re adding one at a time otherwise you could over borax it and it will turn into putty.
– Once it is no longer sticky, continue to knead for a few extra minutes just to make sure everything is well incorporated.

Either play with it straight away or pop it into a ziplock bag or air tight container. It might feel a little wet to the touch once you’ve left it to sit for a little while but this will disappear once you start playing with it. If for whatever reason your mixture is sticky, add a little borax solution and knead.

Easy Peasy Slime 2- Contact Lens Solution

The thing I love most about contact lens solution slime is, there is no mixing of borax involved and it’s already in a bottle ready to go. Contact lens solution slime is super super stretchy and a lot of fun.

What you’ll need
– 1/2 cup white glue
– 1/4 tsp baking sida
– food colouring or glitter or both!
– contact lens solution

What to do
– Grab a bowl and pour in your white glue. Sprinkle in your baking soda and give it a good mix
– If you’re colouring your slime or adding glitter, mix this in now.
– Start by adding a drop or two of the contact lens solution. This will come together almost immediately.
– Add a little more then mix, repeat until it is kind of all stringy and lumpy. Don’t add too much solution otherwise it won’t be as stretchy!
– Pop some contact lens solution on your hands and then start kneading your slime. Keep kneading until it is no longer sticky. This takes a few minutes.

Either play with it straight away or pop it into a ziplock bag or air tight container. It might feel a little wet to the touch once you’ve left it to sit for a little while but this should will disappear once you start playing with it. Contact lens solution slime doesn’t hold up as well as borax slime in my opinion but you’ll get a few decent plays with it before you need to biff it!
