Our 2018 adventures are beginning and I am so fucking excited! Last year we made so many awesome new memories and explored so many awesome places and we’re doing it all over again this year. To dust off the winter cobwebs, we hit Duder Regional Park a couple of Sunday’s ago and let me tell ya, it’s gosh damn beautiful!
If you love climbing some hills, walking through a couple of paddocks of really fucking cute sheep and lambs (it’s baby season right now!!), being at one with nature and checking out stunning views then you’re going to LOVE Duder Regional Park.
Starting at the gate, follow the gravel path right around until you hit the Waipokaia Bay sign. You can either take this path and walk along the coastline track which will take you around to Waipokaia and Te Wharau Bays (providing its low tide) OR start heading up to do the farm loop.
We hit the farm loop first and climbed over the hills to make our way out to the spit to catch the stunning 360-degree view of the Hauraki Gulf while fantails danced around us! You can spot the tippy top of Rangitoto, you’ll get to see Waiheke, Ponui and Pakihi Islands and if it’s a super clear day, you’ll also be able to spot the Coromandel Penisula.
You can either take a load off, have a picnic at the spit and soak in the views and sea air or start to head back across the farm. Going back the way you came, you can either follow the track and go around the bays or make your way back to the car.
We headed off to explore a little bit of the coast before we had to leave. While we didn’t get to explore both of the bays, what we did see of Waipokaia Bay was absolutely gorgeous.
Duder Regional Park is a must adventure and I cannot wait to head back when the weather is a tad warmer to finish exploring the coast and have a wee dip in the water!
